Tinyman 4 moods: Review by Zulunatic Badejo

This EP shows a different side of Tinyman to the one we saw in the Nameless EP which he released earlier this year. "4 Moods" is a harsh musical introduction into the mind of this bipolar character created by artist Tinyman. Intelligently juxtaposing lyrical content with the instrumentals to create a mix of emotions for the audience to take in, I believe that artist Tinyman has succeeded not only in presenting a bipolar character to the audience but has been able to create what I would call a bipolar EP.

In the Intro poem, Ray Jonez attempts to narrate these four moods using binary oppositions "Relevant to the chest slightly centre left, deep, but still beating above the skin". Successfully creating a tension in the listener. Explaining and describing how these four moods, without giving them names, are so different and yet come together to create this one complete person.
Using a beat from the genre Liquid (a fusion of Drum and Base and Jungle) in the first track Nameless, Tinyman presents one part of this character. The exploration of paranoia as a result of drug abuse is illustrated clearly. Lyrically he shows how confused this person is but using the effects of the drugs as an excuse. The title of the track being the same as his last EP raises questions as to whether or not this character he is telling us about is in fact himself.

In the next track Maybe Today, starts with a message from his girlfriend telling him that their relationship is over as she had caught him cheating but also confessing a secret of her own. Throughout the track he blames her for this problem but in the first verse he starts out suicidal but in the second verse his tone changes and suggests that maybe she should consider suicide and in the third verse he seems to come to a conclusion that murder would appease him more with a very graphic description of deaths which he thinks would suit her. Although he cheated the track concentrates on the betrayal he felt and rather than showing any form of remorse for his actions.

My personal favourite is Cupids Backlash. Describes a heartless man. Describing his lack of understanding of love and explaining his joys and how he has also had his fair share of Cupids pain. Unique lack of belief/faith in relationships is not a concept that is commonly explored amongst artists in this way.
Positivity breeds happiness as the main phrase repeated in the chorus would make you believe that Building Bridges would be a more positive song. But even with this positive message I found that something was still pushing me towards a negative dragging feeling and I realise that the beat completely juxtaposes the lyrics and concept. The beat is slow, dreary and generally not a happy sounding beat which I thought was once again a brilliant way of subliminally making the listener connect with these 4 separate moods at the same time. Once again I believe Tinyman also had little subliminal links to himself in this song, with references to acting and acting practitioners.
The 4 Moods EP should be listened to with an open mind and readiness to accept a different side of this artist. His dedication to exploring new things and bravery for trying them is commendable. On the whole I think it's a very interesting EP and I'd like to see where Tinyman takes us next.

Upshot TV brings together two of the funniest UK African Comics, Adot Comedian and Tboy (aka Don't Jealous Me) to present the long awaited collaboration.... Adot vs Tboy: The Brotherhood.

When two brothers are constantly at each other's throat; their uncle comes up with plan which will make the two brothers settle their dispute once and for all.
In a Street Fighter style the two relatives battle it out to identify who will be the winner. However, as the fight develops, they realise that there is a bigger threat.

Will they be able to put their differences aside and work together to defeat the bossman or will their grudge towards each other get in the way???

IS A SONG FROM MY DEBUT EP 'NAMELESS' DOWNLOAD IT THERE >>>>
IVE ALSO INCLUDED THE LYRICS, ENJOY :)

1

I Popped a bottle to the good life,
Said kay serah to the hood life
And au revoir to the girls that I had from my past life
Fully focused got my mind right, got a forward motion
No helter skelter, roller coasting, got to ghosting
Forget being popular, roller motion
It was time to settle down, no proposing
to my new life I raised a toast an had a motive
Put loose girls on hold....set a target man and truth be told,
I found a girl that was 70 30, personality with looks straight worthy
And a mind so strong... So strong she bothered me
Her urge to give it all encouraged me
So gettin with this girl was a must
I didn't know If it was love or lust... trust

Pre Chorus

Chorus
We rise up but we keep on falling
My deep thoughts make my mind go touring, put my all in

Right now this is 70 30
Right now this is 70 30

N It aint working

I told her I put a hundred percent
But ur share just don't make sence I mean it don't make sence coz...
Right now this is 70 30
Right now this is 70 30

2

You know them ones where you try hard to show love
Them ones were uve been puttin work for so long
And your emotions got u feeling like ur on drugs
Paranoid and in a state of mind that's so wrong
Messed up part of me just lusted Part of me saw the only girl I trusted
Ahhh in the beginning she wanted love and I shared
Now she gwarn like she don't care
6 months gone now kept a low profile just for my girls sake
Man I made a great sacrifice that didn't benefit my life more like a mistake,
I started doubting, Its like my pain in her eyes was arousing
On some talk about "let's av a child" ting.....PAUSE
That's when my mind went blank I dam nearly had a heart attack

Pre

Chorus
We rise up but we keep on falling
My deep thoughts make my mind go touring, put my all in
Right now this is 70 30
Right now this is 70 30

N It aint working
I told her I put a hundred percent
But ur share just don't make sence I mean it don't make sence coz...
Right now this is 70 30
Right now this is 70 30

3

You're beautiful lovely and ur sex is dope
But its like I'm walking eggshells and a tightrope
These days your angry most of the time coz ur frustrated and u can't cope
Ahh a relationships meant to be 50/50 cut even in the middle like malcolm missy
Right now your love drunk n I'm tipsy, Its like we aint fitted 59...50
Urghh Ur talented and ur love is dope But its like I'm cheating movin silent scope
Planned Out a new era made mental notes
Melanie said keep the 1s u call ur family close
True stories it eased my stress Felt Like i had a case to rest
So I told my girl if there aint no trust
Then bottom line there can't be no us

Pre

Chorus

We rise up but we keep on falling,
My deep thoughts make my mind go touring, put my all in
Right now this is 70 30
Right now this is 70 30

I told her If there aint no trust then bottom line there can't be no us Be no us...
Right now this is 70 30
Right now this is 70 30

Repeat Chorus

MEET THE CONTROLLERS

THE CONTROLLERS ARE A MUSIC PRODUCTION DUO, INCLUDING MYSELF AN MY VERY GOOD PAL AMOUR THE BIG BOSS HAIDER HES DOWN THERE LOOK!! LOL

ABOUT THE CONTROLLERS

The Controllers are no ordinary set of record producer’s. Unlike the many clichéd testimonies heard everyday, they really do compose in all genres, from the organic 1950’s do-wop era to yesterday’s heavily synthesized number one. Who would have thought that two individuals, living near opposite lives would collaborate on a life changing experience in 2007 by the single element that got them started, a love for music.

Raised in a home that appreciated world music, Amour began to realise the importance of music in society and began playing the Piano at a young age. By 14, he was a classically trained pianist, yet he chose to pause developing his playing further in order to start his newly found skill of composing. Fast-forwarding a few years, he was introduced to many new genres and styles of music, thus increasing his knowledge of composition, production and engineering skills to suit each one.

Growing up around garage and lyrical rap unlike Amour was Michael’s way of understanding music. Somewhat moving on from his upbringing with an influential urban scene, Michael began accomplishing what can be only known as passion for all types of music, slowly gathering enough knowledge to understand the subtle differences around him. Without being formally taught how to play an instrument, Michael began using his skills to understand instrumentation, which now leads him to pick up any western instrument and play ideas on, one after the other.

The Controllers do not have a set of end-all-be-all equipment. Having skills to figure out equipment in minutes, they can accommodate a vast range of studios, from a lo-fi 4-track basement studio to a fully blown Pro Tools system. This allows them to work with artists that prefer to use a set DAW or method, while still retaining their signature sound.

INTERVIEW WITH SHYTWEETS ABOUT NAMELESS EP

HERES ANOTHER INTERVIEW ABOUT MY EP NAMELESS WITH @shytweets

Hi Mr Tinyman, thanks for taking the time out to answer some questions. Getting the cliche music questions out of the way, when did you start doing music?
I started MCing in the garage days/early 2000's but it was nothing serious. Everybody wanted to be like So Solid Crew (laughs) but I say I started to take Rap seriously from 2004/05.

Why 'Nameless'?
There are so many reasons why! The E.P is called nameless because I made a song called nameless and at the time I couldnt think of a name so I said "ah let me just call it nameless."

As time went by the true meaning of the title made sense. A lot of people were about to hear me do something they didn't expect me to do as people knew me as a host in raves so to them and those who never knew I could rap or make this kind of music, I was 'nameless'. I stripped away my persona and became neutral and spoke 100% truth.

You seem to have a neo-soul kind of vibe to your music. What and who would you say are your influences?
At the time of making the E.P I was going through a lot and when I say a lot, I mean good and bad (Laughs). It had a positive effect on me. I was still trying to find my sound and my identity musically for self therapy and all I wanted to do was think out of the box and be different to your average South London Rapper from a council estate. I would listen to many neo soul artists but Eric Roberson, Geno Young, Jill Scott, Foreign Exchange and Erykah Badu. Their music made me wonder off into another zone of happiness no matter what emotion the song portrayed because they represented artistic freedom and realness so I took inspiration from their lyrical freedom and what they talked about. It took me 2 years to find my sound and they contributed to it.

My favourite track of yours has to be D.N.D. What was the concept behind it?
Do Not Disturb hmmm..(thinks) The concept behind the track a story about one of my friends with an obsessive ex girlfriend and some other experiences that I have witnessed that influenced that song. Its also the general concept of 'Do Not Disturb', wanting to leave the past behind and pushing what is acting as a barrier in your present aside. Like imagine you know in your heart your destined for greatness or success? No matter what it is your doing, you know what you want but people that are acting as barriers in what ever way have to be told that's what is behind 'Do Not Disturb.' (smiles)

Any future projects in the works?
I have already started working on a new album/EP. I've already got a few songs recorded and written. It will be the same vibe in terms of concepts and lyrics but more experimental in terms of production and collaborations I've also got the DND video and a few other songs coming soon once uni is out the way for the year. (sighs and laughs)

Where can we find more of your material?

Music and Madness: Interview with Tinyman

Music and Madness: Interview with Tinyman: Hello humans, h ow's it going? Alright, enough of that let's get back to business. Cue anecdote. One fine day last month I was looking for...
HERES SOMETHING ELSE I CAME ACROSS FROM 09'

MY HOW I HAVE CHANGED

WOW INTERVIEW FROM 2004

So i typed in "tinyman interview" on google and heres what i came across!

Baby J: So who are the final three then?
Tiny-Man: I, Snazzy and Shy, one of them got me into liking the good tunez (shy)and the other is a bad producer(Snazzy aka Echoman)

Baby J: So what sort of things do you rap about?
Tiny-Man: Everything, I’ll tell u something, I was dreaming about a girl, dreaming about me, dreaming about her, and I writ bout that, anything, but am kind of having problems writing bout love and that.  I’m more of a person that spits truth and I think to the extreme. IN da 1st mixtape it was more of an introduction for me but in number 2 derez more humor. I got some mad barz I record them then think like RAAH DATZ F*ING SICK, and at the end of it all, I weren’t good when I started then I got advice listened 2 other artists then started writing den I got 2 were I was 2 day

Baby J: Do u see yourself working in this type of industry in 10 years time?
Tiny-Man: Yes, but I don't know, whatever happens, happens, but I hope it will u kno

Baby J:  What do u want to become when you leave university?
Tiny-Man: A business man or an engineer a computer engineer, a daddy, a husband but who’s the lucky lady!? I never know, maybe I might own my own studio or act even just don’t kno

Baby J: If u do become successful with this type of career, would you like your son to be part of your business?
Tiny-Man: Hold on a minute I might not even have a son, but yes if I did I'll teach him how to write da barz, and by then I shall be good at producing so it will be like a Lil Romeo and Master P, but am better then Lil Romeo get me tho.

Baby J: Whose you inspiration (Artists wise)?
Tiny-Man: Well first I have 2 be my own inspiration for me two have any, so me. Truthfully, I listened to Jay-z and 50 cent when I was younger and Ruff Ryderz etc. Double S got me writing man and big up 2 captain gunman inspirations

Baby J: Whose you inspiration (Family wise)?
Tiny-Man: Yes my bigger brother and my uncle got me liking different types of music so I have different style, so I've come from different musical backgrounds, I like every kind of music if it’s good I like it

Baby J: What do you listen to these days?
Tiny-Man: These days I listen to Juelz Santana and Grafh

Baby J: Why just them two?
Tiny-Man: The reason why is because I’ve changed my style 2 more cocky and lyrical Juelz and Grafh are very cocky and lyrical so I observe there style and adopt (Not copy!) There also my inspirationz.

Baby J: What advice would you give to someone who wants to make it in life with rapping but doesn’t nowhere to start?
Tiny-Man: I say if u start by listening to other artists and see were there coming from  and come in the game differently coz a lot of people talk bout the same thing and its boring I’d rather be a fox kid watching tv if that’s how the music is

Baby J: Well were coming to the end of this interview, anything you would like to ask/say to me?
Tiny-Man: Erm.. Yes Baby J, better know the mix-tape coming out soon, u shud watch out 4 sum grimey trackz man like me and Shy’s Mic Check and Snazzy’s solo still but should I have mix-tape 1&2 together or should they be done separate?

Baby J: Yes I would like a free one, I think it should be separate because people should see the one first, and then look forward to the second one
Tiny-Man: True True. Dnt worry b derz a lot of peepz I need 2 give it 2 for free

Baby J: Well Tiny-Man, its time to close the interview, it was nice interviewing you, I hope you mix-tape goes really well, just keep doing what your doing, Bye for now xx
Tiny-Man: Well big up Baby J my Bizzle from day yeh and all da mand dem from south east and south west keep it gutta!! Itz ure friendly neighbourhood Tiny-Man signing out yeh. Hold tight all da ruff boiz and buff gyalz!! Yehh LONDON KEEP IT GANGSTA!!

BOY HOW I HAVE CHANGED!!
